National workshop on HIV case verification and case reporting system in Ha Noi, 2018

For the purpose of improving data quality and sharing experiences of implementation case reporting verification in Nghe An, Dien Bien, and other provinces/cities, the Center for Community Health Research and Development (CCRD) collarborated with Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control to organize the National workshop on HIV case verification and case reporting in Ha Noi on September 20th, 2018.

The workshop attracted 72 participants from the Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control; the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology; the Provincial HIV/AIDS Centers of 10 provinces/cities including: Kien Giang, Dien Bien, Ho Chi Minh city, Can Tho, Nghe An, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa, Son La, Ha Noi and Representatives of organizations including USAID, PATH, CDC, FHI360, WHO, UNAIDS, and Ha Noi Medical University.

At the workshop, the representative of Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control highly appreciated the efforts of CCRD and USAID staff who helped support and improve HIV case verification and case reporting activities throughout the provinces over the duration of the project. Nghe An province shared experiences of HIV case verification and case reporting with support from the CCRD and received many compliments from colleagues on how it was executed.

Apart from sharing the experiences of performing HIV case reporting and case verification of people living with HIV, provinces also mentioned the difficuties in managing people living with HIV and implementing activities related to provincial HIV case reporting of such as: reduction of resources, migration status of people living with HIV, stigma and discrimination, etc. The Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control recorded the difficulties faced while implementing programs and they expected that the localities try to continue to implement effective activities in order to achieve the 90-90-90 target commitment.

Closing workshop, PhD. Pham Duc Manh - Deputy Director of Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control was required to exhibit the standard operating procedure for HIV case verification and case reporting in order to guide provinces on how to conduct the step by step process according to the requirements of 09/2012/TT-BYT circular and achieve the final goal of having a complete, accurate and convenient HIV database to serve for making plans and implementing programs. The CCRD collaborated with Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control to build and enact a nation-wide Standard Operating Procedure to be adopted in the near future.
